Swieqi Deputy Mayor Urges Empathy For Street Bottle Collector After Chat

Swieqi Deputy Mayor Jordan Galea Pace shared a video of himself having a chat with a bottle collector who was going around Swieqi collecting bottles for the BCRS scheme.

‘Over the past months, I’ve had residents insist that these individuals should be reported to the police’, wrote Galea Pace.

‘My response has always been the same: I believe our police officers have far more important matters to focus on, and not everyone is fortunate enough to be in the same financial situation.’

Galea Pace urged the collector to leave bags closed and tidy after collecting them, and asked if he needed any help.

‘A little empathy goes a long way. Most people collecting bottles are simply trying to earn a few extra euros, and if those bottles were headed for landfill anyway, they’re also helping ensure they get recycled.’
