Students Initiative Dr Sunshine Launches Comfort Kits For Children In Hospital

Dr Sunshine, a JA Mini-Company created by Sixth Form students from St Aloysius College and Junior College, officially launches today on World Children’s Day.
The initiative aims to bring comfort and warmth to children during their hospital stay through carefully prepared Comfort Kits.
Inspired by a real hospital experience, the project seeks to make long and difficult days a little brighter for young patients while involving schools, families, and communities in a nationwide act of kindness.
To mark the launch, news outlets across Malta are being informed, and the team will appear live on national television on Illum ma’ Steph with Stephanie Spiteri at 17:00. This visibility helps raise awareness of their mission and the meaningful impact they hope to create.
The idea began when Managing Director Yasmine Shawish offered some of her own comfort items to a young patient she met during her recovery.
Seeing his spirits lift sparked the creation of Dr Sunshine. Each kit includes a soft blanket, reading and colouring books, pencils, and puzzle books, all chosen to provide reassurance, distraction, and creativity during long hours in hospital.
The project also features a Reverse Advent Calendar, encouraging schools and later businesses to sponsor kits. Through this effort, the team hopes to bring comfort, hope, and warmth to children who need it most.
