Sophie Ditzel Pritsker from St Martin's College has been announced as the winner of a national photo competition celebrating 10 years of the European Parliament Ambassador School (EPAS) Programme in Malta.

Organised by the European Parliament Liaison Office in Malta, the competition invited students from EPAS schools across Malta to answer the question: “What does Europe mean to you?” through a photo and caption.

The winning entry, posted on Instagram, reads: “Europe means many countries living together. It has different languages, cultures, and traditions, but they share history and values. Europe stands for peace, cooperation, and learning from the past. To me, Europe is about freedom and exploring different cultures. It is not just a place on the map, but a feeling of belonging and connection.”

A total of 24 schools participated, including De La Salle College, Junior College, St Augustine College, St Clare College, St Dorothy’s Senior School, St Joseph Senior School, St Ignatius College, Maria Regina College – Lily of the Valley, and St Martin’s College.

Submissions explored themes such as European identity, cultural diversity, sustainability, and solidarity, reflecting how young people perceive Europe and their role within it.

As part of her prize, Sophie will travel to Brussels to represent EPAS Malta at the EPAS 10-Year Anniversary Youth Seminar at the European Parliament on 18 March.

The Maltese delegation will include the winning student, an accompanying educator, and two additional students from St Martin’s College.

The winning photograph will also be printed and exhibited at the European Parliament Info Hub alongside other selected entries from across Europe.

The competition highlights a decade of EPAS activities in Malta, promoting active citizenship, democratic participation, and a deeper understanding of the European Union among students.
