Strong Vote Confirms PM Robert Abela As Labour Party Leader

Prime Minister Robert Abela has been confirmed as Leader of the Labour Party with a strong majority following a vote by delegates during the party's Extraordinary General Conference.
The confirmation forms part of the Labour Party's statutory process, requiring delegates to endorse the leadership during a General Conference, which began yesterday.
Delegates also confirmed the party's two Deputy Leaders in their respective roles. Ian Borg was reaffirmed as Deputy Leader for Parliamentary Affairs, while Alex Agius Saliba retained his position as Deputy Leader for Party Affairs.
According to the Labour Party, the vote reflects delegates' recognition of the leadership's work, particularly following the party's fourth consecutive electoral victory, which it described as a historic achievement that has enabled it to remain Malta's largest political force.
Following the announcement, Prime Minister Robert Abela thanked delegates for what he described as a strong vote of confidence in both himself and the party leadership.
He said the result acknowledged the collective efforts made over recent years and strengthened the party's commitment to fulfilling its promises to the Maltese people.
Abela added that the endorsement provides renewed determination for both the Government and the Labour Party to continue implementing their programme.
He said the administration remains focused on supporting Maltese families, strengthening businesses and delivering on its priorities in the years ahead.
The Extraordinary General Conference is being held under the theme "INT Malta: Il-Ħolma tiegħek, il-Proġett tagħna" and concludes tomorrow evening.
The closing session will feature addresses by Prime Minister and Labour Party Leader Robert Abela, Deputy Leaders Ian Borg and Alex Agius Saliba, together with Labour Party President Alex Sciberras. It is expected to outline the party's priorities for the coming months.
