An orange weather warning has been issued for the Maltese Islands, with thundery and gusty showers expected to affect the country, including periods of moderate to heavy rain.

The unsettled conditions are expected to continue throughout the weekend, with today’s forecast bringing thundery showers, while Saturday is expected to see isolated showers.

Sunday could be the wettest day of the weekend, with rain and, once again, a possibility of thunderstorms.

Temperatures will also vary throughout the weekend. Friday and Saturday are expected to reach highs of 29°C, with Sunday slightly cooler at 27°C.

Overnight lows are forecast at 23°C on Friday, 22°C on Saturday and 21°C on Sunday.

Winds will be relatively light, coming from the southwest on Friday, shifting from southeasterly to northeasterly on Saturday, and becoming variable to easterly/northeasterly on Sunday.

The sea remains unusually warm at around 31°C, although beach conditions could be disrupted by periods of rain, thunderstorms and gusty showers.
