Storm Harry Creates Biggest Wave Ever Recorded in the Mediterranean

Statistics emerging from Storm Harry continue to underline the historic nature of the weather event, with a new record now confirmed in the Mediterranean Sea.
According to popular weather page Maltese Islands Weather, a meteorological buoy positioned between Malta and Sicily measured a staggering 16-metre-high wave during the storm. The data was officially confirmed by the Italian National Institute for Environmental Protection and Research, marking the highest wave ever recorded in the Mediterranean.
Experts attribute this unprecedented measurement to two key factors: the gale-force winds persisted for over 24 hours, and the wind travelled uninterrupted across approximately 400 kilometres of open sea, allowing waves to build to extreme heights.
While Storm Harry did not break records in terms of wind strength, its prolonged duration and the vast area of sea it impacted resulted in significant damage. Meteorologists note that it is precisely this combination, longevity and scale, that made Storm Harry one of the most destructive weather systems to affect the region in recent history.
