The Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta will open its doors to the public on Sunday 23 November from 10.00 to 17.00 for a special open day that invites families, history enthusiasts and visitors of all ages to explore one of Malta’s most remarkable landmarks.

The event will offer full access to the entire building, including the famous Gran Sala and the rarely seen attic level above the main hall, a sixteenth-century structure that has survived centuries of use, wartime damage and recent restoration.

Throughout the day the centre will host a programme of activities designed for families and children.

A dedicated children’s area will feature interactive games and creative activities, while live music will bring energy to the main courtyards and corridors. A food court will offer a variety of snacks and meals, making the event an enjoyable outing for the whole family.

Visitors will also be able to discover the unique history of the site, originally built in 1574 as the Sacra Infermeria of the Order of St John.

Guides and staff will be available to explain the role of the Gran Sala, once one of the largest hospital wards in Europe, and to highlight the impressive conservation work that has recently secured the original attic timbers and masonry.

This upper level, preserved above the modern conference spaces, remains one of the most authentic surviving features of the building and is rarely accessible to the public.

This open day is a chance to experience the Mediterranean Conference Centre in a new way, combining culture, family entertainment and exclusive access to Malta’s architectural heritage.
