During a press conference announcing €38 million in funding for the Ta’ Saura National Empowerment Hub, Prime Minister Robert Abela described the investment as a significant step towards turning the project into a fully operational centre that promotes creativity and inclusion.

He explained that the agreement is being implemented with the support of Komunità Malta, enabling the restoration of the historic building while ensuring that the project can function effectively once completed.

The initiative also reflects recognition of the work carried out by the Malta Trust Foundation and reinforces a broader commitment to support similar social projects. According to the Prime Minister, collaboration between the State and civil society plays a key role in generating long term social value.

Dar Saura is intended to become a modern, welcoming centre capable of accommodating up to one thousand people at a time. Those attending will be able to access a range of services while also developing skills that allow them to contribute actively to society.

Particular emphasis has been placed on supporting children and young people who depend on others, with the aim of providing them with greater independence and dignity.

The Prime Minister also highlighted existing social measures, including financial assistance for therapies for children with disabilities. He noted that support which originally took the form of a tax credit has been converted into a direct grant and increased to €1,000 annually, reflecting a stronger commitment to families.

The initiative has been presented as part of a wider model already used in other national projects, including those by Puttinu Cares and developments in sport. Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna welcomed the project, describing it as an inclusive space shaped through co-operation between the Church, the State and civil society.

The project is being led by the Malta Trust Foundation, chaired by Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, which focuses on empowering young people through social and creative programmes.
