Stand-By Generators Being Used To Restore Power Temporarily As Works Ongoing

Enemalta is using stand-by generators to temporarily restore electricity supply in affected areas while engineers continue repairing faults caused during the ongoing heatwave.

The company said the exceptionally high temperatures have resulted in unprecedented electricity demand, placing considerable pressure on the national distribution network.

According to Enemalta, the surge in demand exposed parts of the network that still require further reinforcement, even though areas where upgrades have already been completed generally performed well.

Engineers remain on site carrying out repairs, while stand-by generators are being used to provide temporary electricity to affected customers wherever possible.

Enemalta said customers experiencing individual electricity supply problems should contact the 24 hour Helpline 153 so reports can be registered and addressed.

The company also highlighted its ongoing investment programme, stating that more than €3 million has already been spent on installing new substations and strengthening sections of the electricity network. These projects are intended to support Malta's continued development and growing demand for electricity.

Enemalta thanked its employees for their continued commitment throughout the heatwave, saying crews have been working around the clock to restore supply safely and as quickly as possible.

The company added that further reinforcement works will continue in areas where the recent increase in electricity demand exposed the need for additional network expansion.
