Sports Minister Byron Camilleri has met French football legend Patrice Evra during the former Manchester United and France captain’s latest visit to Malta.

Sharing a photo of the meeting on Facebook, Camilleri joked that Evra “wasn’t with the teams I supported”, with Camilleri being a Milan supporter but added that there is no doubt he was an excellent player.

“Lil Malta jħobbha” (“He loves Malta”), the minister added, highlighting Evra’s affection for the island.

Evra enjoyed a highly successful career, representing some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Manchester United, Juventus and AS Monaco. He also earned more than 80 caps for France and captained the national team.

The former left-back has become a familiar face in Malta, regularly visiting the island and enjoying its nightlife and entertainment scene.

He was recently spotted attending the Santa Maria edition of G7 x District at Café del Mar, adding to his growing list of appearances on the island.

Evra’s continued visits have seen him build a strong connection with Malta, where he appears to enjoy both the island’s atmosphere and its vibrant social scene.
