SportMalta School Sports Day 2026 To Encourage More Kids To Get Active

Schools across Malta and Gozo are being invited to take part in the 2026 edition of SportMalta School Sports Day, an initiative aimed at promoting sport and physical activity among students from an early age.
The initiative was launched at the Cottonera Sports Complex by Minister for Education and Sport Byron Camilleri and SportMalta Chief Executive Officer Mark Cutajar, in the presence of representatives from schools that participated in last year’s edition.
SportMalta School Sports Day will take place on 19 October, with schools encouraged to organise activities that suit their students and their own school environment. The initiative aims to give children the opportunity to try different activities, enjoy movement and develop positive habits that can continue beyond their school years.
Minister Camilleri said that education extends beyond the classroom and that sport plays an important role in children’s personal development. He said that taking part in physical activities helps students build confidence, work together and develop teamwork skills.
The Minister stressed that the initiative is not only about one day dedicated to sport, but about creating a culture where physical activity becomes a regular part of children’s lives. He added that while not every child will become an athlete, every student should have the opportunity to find an activity they enjoy.
SportMalta Chief Executive Officer Mark Cutajar said that the initiative encourages more children and young people to take part in physical activity during school hours. He explained that the event brings together Maltese and Gozitan schools with the shared aim of promoting sport as an important part of the school experience.
During the launch, schools that participated in the 2025 edition were recognised, with SportMalta presenting sports equipment to participating schools to support future activities. Santa Monica School in Birkirkara received the Most Outstanding SportMalta School Sports Day Trophy for its creative, varied and inclusive programme.
All schools in Malta and Gozo are invited to participate in this year’s edition. Participating schools will receive sports equipment, while the school that demonstrates the greatest creativity and commitment will be considered for the trophy in the next edition.
