Speaker Carmelo Abela Shows Support For Pink October Awareness Campaign

Speaker of the House of Representatives Carmelo Abela has joined the Pink October and Movember awareness campaigns, highlighting the importance of cancer prevention, early detection and regular health checks.

As part of the initiative, Abela visited the Blood Donation Unit stand, where he discussed the importance of blood donation and its role in saving lives.

Together with Malta Marigold Foundation Chairperson Michelle Muscat, he also visited the foundation's stand, as well as the National Mental Health Services stands set up outside Parliament.

During the visits, the Speaker stressed the importance of recognising changes in one's health, seeking medical advice when necessary and making regular screenings part of everyday life.

He also highlighted that health awareness should extend beyond dedicated awareness months, encouraging open conversations about illness and efforts to reduce the stigma surrounding certain conditions.

Parliament employees also took part in the initiative by wearing something pink in support of the campaign.
