Speaker Carmelo Abela Meets Junior College Fresher’s Week Students

Speaker of the House of Representatives Carmelo Abela visited the Junior College during Freshers’ Week, meeting students and touring information stands set up to welcome them at the start of the new academic year.

The Speaker was welcomed by the College's leadership, including Principal Paul Xuereb and Chairperson Prof. Emanuel Said, who accompanied him during the visit.

Speaking during the event, Carmelo Abela said it was a pleasure to meet students as they began another academic year. He highlighted the importance of Freshers’ Week in helping both new and returning students become familiar with the College's academic services, support systems and opportunities available to them throughout their studies.

The Speaker also underlined the value of strengthening links between Parliament and educational institutions such as the Junior College. He said these connections can help students gain a better understanding of how Parliament works, while encouraging them to play an active role in Malta's democratic life. He added that continued collaboration and dialogue help bring Parliament closer to young people and raise awareness of its role and responsibilities.

Carmelo Abela congratulated the organisers and the College's management for their efforts in creating a welcoming environment for students. He praised their commitment to ensuring students receive the guidance and support they need to succeed academically, while also providing opportunities to develop their skills, interests and talents throughout their time at the College.
