Small Islands, Big Stories: St Michael Junior School Celebrates Maltese Culture

St. Michael Junior School in Pembroke has once again held its annual calendar event, titled Small Islands, Big Stories, transforming the school into a celebration of Maltese culture.
The initiative offered students a hands-on programme of cultural workshops led by guests from Malta’s local cultural scene.
Pupils explored a wide range of traditions and crafts, including Maltese tile work, the luzzu, carnival masks, weaving, crib making, Maltese lace, traditional food, Roman art, Renaissance theatre, Maltese dancing and pastizzi making.
Through these activities, learners gained a deeper understanding of the islands’ heritage and identity.
The event encouraged curiosity and appreciation for local traditions while allowing students to engage directly with cultural practices that continue to shape Maltese life.
