Sixth Edition Of State Of The Nation Conference To Be Held On September 4th
The sixth edition of the national State of the Nation conference will take place on 4 September at Verdala Palace, bringing together political leaders, academics and experts to discuss one of the country's most pressing long term issues.
This year's conference will focus on the theme "The Population and the Maltese Nation in 50 Years' Time".
The event is being organised on the initiative of Professor Vincent Marmarà and strategic communications consultant Lou Bondi, in collaboration with and with the support of the Office of the President of Malta.
In addition to expert speakers from various sectors, the conference will feature addresses by Prime Minister Robert Abela, Archbishop of Malta Mgr Charles J. Scicluna, President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola and Leader of the Opposition Alex Borg.
Details of the conference were announced during a press conference at San Anton Palace, where President of Malta Myriam Spiteri Debono underlined the importance and relevance of this year's theme.
She noted that the ongoing discussion surrounding Malta's population extends across a wide range of sectors, including ethnicity, the economy, national infrastructure, healthcare and education, making it an issue that affects society as a whole.
The President also encouraged members of the public to participate in the conference alongside experts, emphasising the importance of broad public discussion on matters that will shape the country's future.
Lou Bondi said Malta and the wider world are experiencing significant social and demographic changes that are reshaping people's understanding of identity and belonging.
He explained that this year's conference aims to encourage discussion on the long term democratic effects of these developments, while examining their impact on Malta's language, traditions and cultural identity over the coming decades.
Professor Vincent Marmarà stressed that the conference is intended to go beyond analysing current realities. Instead, he said, it seeks to foster a serious national debate grounded in research and evidence, helping to build a shared long term vision for the country.
He added that the decisions taken today will influence Malta's future, making open discussion and informed action more important than ever.
The conference is being organised with the principal support of the Office of the President of Malta, together with several public and private partners.
