Six Protected Collared Doves Found In Mtarfa Confirmed Shot

The Malta Ranger Unit reported that 6 of the 11 protected Collared Doves found in the built up area of the Mtarfa Local Council had been shot.
They were found with pellets inside of them, which was confirmed as the cause of their deaths.
The case was handled by a ranger on the 5th of September, where an Environmental Protection Unit (EPU) was called on site to collect the 11 Doves in the urban area.
The EPU police is now investigating to confirm what type of gun was used.
‘Killing Collared Doves is illegal as per the Wild Bird Regulation SL. 549.42. It is also illegal to shoot closer than 200m to a built up area.’
‘The site is very close to where a Honey Buzzard was shot down in Mtarfa in 2024, just 20m away from the houses.’
