The Police Force has been strengthened with six new electric vehicles which will be used by the Community Policing Unit to enhance security in various tourist areas.

These vehicles were donated by the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) and were financed through funds jointly administered by the MHRA, the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA), and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Tourism.

The vehicles, Hyundai Kona models, will operate in Sliema, Swieqi, Cottonera, Marsaxlokk, Paceville and Gozo.

These new vehicles will help strengthen rapid response capabilities, reduce tourism-related crime, and reinforce relations with the community.

Andrew Agius Muscat said that “the MHRA works closely with various stakeholders to support the sustainable management of tourism across the Maltese Islands, with the Malta Police Force being a key partner.”

“Through the introduction of these electric vehicles, security remains essential both for the quality of tourism and for the wellbeing of the community. We therefore believe that the role of the Community Police is particularly important.”
