Older people across Malta and Gozo can now benefit from longer operating hours through the Silver T service, making it easier than ever to travel independently for everyday errands and appointments.

Silver T provides free transport for people aged over 60 who require assistance getting around the community. The service helps users travel to essential destinations such as banks, supermarkets, markets, health centres and Local Councils, reducing the need to rely on family members or friends for transport.

The extended schedule means the service now operates from Monday to Friday between 7.00am and 4.30pm, instead of finishing at 2.00pm. Saturday morning services have also been introduced, giving older people greater flexibility when planning their week.

The service has become an important part of daily life for many. More than 33,000 journeys were completed during the first six months of this year, while around 1,000 people make use of Silver T every month. Since its launch in 2019, the service has expanded steadily and is now available nationwide in both Malta and Gozo.

Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing Dr Deo Debattista said the extended hours reflect the Government's commitment to placing the independence, dignity and active participation of older people at the centre of its policies. He said services should adapt to the needs of older people and help them remain active within their communities.

The extension also gives families added peace of mind, knowing their loved ones can travel safely to appointments and complete their daily errands with greater independence.
