A Maltese-led expedition has turned an epic climb into life-changing impact for more than 1,000 children across Africa.

The SiGMA Foundation has concluded a four-week Africa mission that saw 20 participants summit Mount Kilimanjaro in February 2026.

This also led to directly funding and delivering five major community projects in Uganda and Ethiopia.

The initiative resulted in the construction of two kindergartens in Kasese and Kaliro, a community centre in Bonga, an elementary school, and a kindergarten in Jimma.

Each project carries Maltese names, including the Marie Louise Marshall Kindergarten, Rosemarie Rapa Kindergarten, Adrian Tonna Community Centre, Jake Vella Elementary School, and St Peter & St Paul Kindergarten.

Beyond infrastructure, the foundation introduced a sustainable model, with the Bonga community centre designed to generate revenue to fund teachers and educational programmes long-term.
