Shape Your Space: Meeting With Nature Trust On White Rocks Vision
Environment

Consultations with various stakeholders are continuing actively regarding the creation of national parks at White Rocks, Fort Campbell, and Manoel Island.

Minister for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli, together with the Project Green team, met with Nature Trust Malta to discuss their proposals for White Rocks as a national park. During the meeting, Nature Trust Malta presented a series of innovative ideas aimed at enhancing the site’s environmental, educational, and social value. A particular focus was placed on environmental education through the involvement of children and families.

These discussions form part of the Government’s ongoing consultation process regarding the three sites, which, instead of being developed as originally planned, are to be transformed into national parks open to the public. Minister Dalli emphasised that the Government is committed to engaging with all those who have ideas or suggestions for the future of these spaces. She highlighted that contributions from these consultations, together with public submissions on parksinmalta.mt, will inform the design and management of the national parks.

Johann Gatt, representing Nature Trust Malta, noted that the discussion focused on making White Rocks an educational and inclusive space. He explained that the plan submitted to the Minister was inspired largely by children themselves, reflecting the organisation’s belief that children have the right to participate in decisions that will shape their future. The proposals aim to encourage greater engagement from young people while strengthening the environmental and social value of the site.
