Seven Swimmers Rescued By Civil Protection After Jumping Into Rough St Peter’s Pool Sea

Yesterday, Civil Protection Department rescuers from Fire Stations 5 and 10 responded to a call from St Peter’s Pool, where seven swimmers required assistance to safely return to land after jumping into rough seas.

All seven were assessed on site by a Mater Dei Hospital Emergency Department medical team, and were fortunately discharged on the scene.

As a precautionary measure, access to the area was closed with the assistance of the Malta Police Force officers from the 5th Police District.

The CPD is urging the public to exercise extreme caution. Rough seas can be extremely powerful and unpredictable, even for experienced swimmers.

During rough sea conditions, one should: keep a safe distance from the shoreline, rocks and exposed coastal areas; not attempt to swim or jump into the sea; not underestimate the force of waves and currents; if in an emergency, call 112 immediately.

‘The CPD strongly reminds everyone: when the sea is rough, stay out of the water and keep a safe distance from the shoreline. Do not risk your life, or the lives of those who may have to come to your rescue.’
