A group of senior citizens took part in a public consultation on the planned national parks, with particular attention given to the proposed development at White Rocks.

The meeting was led by Environment Minister Miriam Dalli together with the Project Green team and formed part of a wider consultation process being held under the theme Shape Your Space.

The consultation is focused on plans to create national parks at White Rocks, Fort Campbell and Manoel Island. Speaking during the meeting, Minister Dalli said the aim was to gather ideas from people of all ages.

“We want to listen to everyone’s ideas. Today we met with senior citizens who shared many interesting ideas with us,” she said, adding that participants also recalled memories from the period when the areas were used as British barracks.

During the discussion, attendees shared personal experiences as well as practical suggestions for the future of the sites. Several highlighted the importance of preserving the areas as community spaces where families can spend time together.

Suggestions included improving accessibility, providing public facilities, introducing a designated dog area and exploring the possibility of access by sea transport.

Project Green has also held consultations with young people, architecture students and local councils in recent weeks. Project Green chief operating officer Beverley Costa said the agency believes everyone should have a voice in shaping these projects.
