Search For 13 Year Old Girl Swept Out To Sea Continues Amidst Adverse Weather

The search for a 13 year old girl swept out to sea at Paradise Bay yesterday at around 18:00 is still underway.
Civil Protection Malta crews from Fire Stations 1, 3, 5, and 8, along with Armed Forces of Malta, The Malta Police Force and Mater Dei Hospital Emergency Department, are currently involved in the search.
The public is being urged to remain clear of the area to allow emergency services to carry out their work effectively.
This comes after the girl’s 14 year old brother was successfully rescued by authorities, with both minors reportedly not Maltese nationals.
Search efforts are being conducted both by air and at sea, with a helicopter deployed in the area. A number of ambulances are also present on site as authorities continue their response.
The Armed Forces of Malta have reported that after extensive coastal and area searches, the operation aimed at locating the 13 year old girl was stood down late in the night.
Adverse weather conditions, including rough seas and strong winds, continue to create challenging circumstances for all responders involved, AFM reported.
The AFM were first alerted through a 112 call yesterday, with the Rescue Coordination Centre deploying an AFM helicopter together with maritime assets.
‘Personnel from the Civil Protection Department and the Malta Police Force also assisted by conducting additional searches from land of the area.’
The public is urged to steer clear from the area so as not to impede search efforts.
