Maltese singer-songwriter Sarah Bonnici has announced the release of her debut visual album, something i had to lose, which is set to be launched on 29 June.

The project marks a significant milestone in her career and represents a deeply personal return to the soul and jazz influences that first inspired her musical journey.

Written by Sarah alongside producers Matthew James Borg and Edward Abela, the visual album offers an intimate exploration of the experiences and emotions that have shaped her over the past year.

Each song forms part of a larger narrative centred on growth, healing and self-discovery. Original musical interludes and spoken passages written by Sarah connect the tracks, creating a seamless and immersive storytelling experience.

The album places a strong emphasis on authenticity. Most of the instruments were recorded live, while the lead vocals were intentionally left largely unedited to preserve the emotion and vulnerability behind each performance.

Sarah describes the project as the most honest work she has ever created, explaining that it allowed her to reconnect with her artistic identity after years of focusing on music aimed at wider commercial appeal.

Known internationally for her Eurovision 2024 entry Loop, Sarah has since enjoyed continued success through chart-topping releases, major live performances and songwriting achievements.
