Abigail Borg, wife of Sandro Grech, posted a detailed update on Facebook about her husband’s postponed journey to China for urgent medical treatment. She revealed that “the plane never took off to collect us,” despite all payments having already been made.

She added that the air ambulance company then demanded an extra €80,000 and tried to force her to agree to conditions that “would have made me give up my legal rights to reclaim the extra funds.” Abigail described these demands as “nothing short of blackmail.”

She confirmed that her family was willing to pay more to ensure Sandro could leave today, but stressed, “We will never allow them to steal our right to justice.”

Abigail also noted that the company had even targeted the Maltese Commissioner in London, who was assisting them, saying, “They went so far as to attack our Commissioner simply for helping a Maltese citizen in difficulty.”

Her post highlighted the efforts of her lawyers and close friends, Aron Mifsud Bonnici and Roselyn Borg, who “continue to work tirelessly day and night with the authorities to secure an air ambulance flight for Sandro as soon as possible,” in coordination with the Travel Abroad Unit at Mater Dei.

Although Sandro is currently back in hospital, Abigail emphasised the role of public support in helping her family remain strong.

“We are receiving so many messages of encouragement, love and courage, and this truly keeps us going,” she wrote.

She concluded by expressing gratitude to all involved, saying, “With the authorities and our community working together, we are determined to find a way for Sandro to get the care he urgently needs.”
