Rosianne Cutajar Represents Malta At EU High Level Conference On LGBTIQ+ Equality In Dublin

Minister for Equality and Civil Rights Rosianne Cutajar led a Maltese delegation at the High-Level Conference on Non-Discrimination (LGBTIQ+ Rights), held in Dublin under the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union and organised in cooperation with the European Commission.
The conference brought together ministers, policymakers, experts, civil society representatives and international organisations to discuss ways of advancing LGBTIQ+ equality and creating safer, more inclusive societies across Europe.
Addressing the conference, Minister Cutajar reaffirmed Malta’s commitment to equality, human rights and non-discrimination, while highlighting the need for continued action as LGBTIQ+ persons across Europe continue to face discrimination, exclusion and hate.
She said equality is not only a legal obligation, but also a fundamental European value requiring ongoing political leadership, investment and cooperation between governments, institutions and civil society.
Discussions during the conference focused on several areas, including the wellbeing of LGBTIQ+ youth and families in digital spaces, the inclusion of older LGBTIQ+ persons, the rights of intersex persons, and efforts to create environments free from discrimination, violence and hate.
Malta also participated in a session dedicated to advancing the rights of intersex persons, where the country shared its experience in promoting bodily integrity, physical autonomy and human rights-based approaches.
On the sidelines of the event, Minister Cutajar met with Ireland’s Minister for Children, Disability and Equality Norma Foley. The two ministers discussed shared priorities, including online hate, misinformation and the importance of ensuring safe and inclusive environments for all.
The conference precedes the meeting of the EU LGBTIQ+ Equality Expert Group, which will continue discussions on equality policies and cooperation between Member States. Minister Cutajar said Malta remains committed to working with European partners to strengthen protections and ensure everyone can participate fully in society.
