Rosianne Cutajar Calls For Social Media Reforms For Children And Adolescents

Minister for Equality and Civil Rights Rosianne Cutajar has taken to social media to call for better social media reforms when it comes to children and adolescents.

She explained that a group of 52 attorney generals from America filed a legal action against Meta, accusing Instagram and Facebook of encouraging social media dependance in youths.

Cutajar explained that this legal action led to Meta including protective reforms into their platforms, including time limits and less notifications.

"This development is particularly important even within the scope of European politics that we restrict access on social media," stated Cutajar.

"In Malta, after an extensive process of public consultation...in the coming days, I will be publishing the findings from this Technology Committee in an officail way," stated Rosianne Cutajar.

Cutajar continued by emphasising that children and adolescents are spending too much time online, and that these platforms should "carry the responsibility and create a secure digital environment" for users.
