European Parliament President Roberta Metsola received the GLOBSEC Award during a gala dinner held at Prague Castle, in recognition of her leadership and contribution to strengthening European democracy during a period of geopolitical uncertainty.

The award, presented annually by GLOBSEC, honours individuals who have made a significant contribution to democracy, international cooperation and the resilience of the transatlantic community.

Metsola was recognised for her consistent support for European unity, democratic values and Ukraine, as well as her role in advancing legislation linked to Europe’s security and economic competitiveness.

Since becoming President of the European Parliament, Metsola has emerged as one of the European Union’s most prominent political figures.

Her leadership has been particularly visible during debates surrounding the war in Ukraine, European defence, migration and economic reform. She has frequently called for stronger European cooperation and greater resilience in the face of growing international instability.

GLOBSEC President and founder Róbert Vass praised Metsola’s “clarity of purpose” and described her as a symbol of principled European leadership. He said her ability to foster unity at a difficult moment for Europe had been essential in shaping a safer and more competitive future for the continent.

The award places Metsola alongside previous recipients including Ursula von der Leyen and Madeleine Albright, underlining her growing influence on the European and international stage.
