Roberta Metsola Invites Pope Leo XIV To EU Parliament Amidst Trump Clash

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola has reached out on behalf of the EP to the Holy See to reaffirm the invitation to Pope Leo XIV to address a Plenary Session.

‘Pope Leo XIV is not only the shepherd of the Roman Catholic flock across the globe, but a symbol of moral courage and clarity in a time where such compasses are increasingly needed’, said Metsola.

‘His voice is one that Europeans of all faiths - and none - listen to, appreciate and respect.’

This comes amidst tensions as US President Donald Trump issued a statement expressing dislike for the new Pope due to his criticisms of the administrations’ policies and continuing of conflicts in the Middle East.

The statement by Trump, issued on Truth Social, prompted a response by Archbishop Charles Scicluna, who expressed solidarity with the Pontiff.
