ROBERTA METSOLA HONOURS VICTIMS ON 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF BRUSSELS ATTACKS

Ten years after the tragic attacks in Brussels, the memories remain as vivid as ever. Roberta Metsola joined Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, Prime Minister Bart De Wever, and the families of the victims at a solemn ceremony to pay tribute to those who lost their lives and all whose lives were profoundly affected.
In a heartfelt social media post, Metsola reflected on the stories she heard during the event, saying they were “a reminder that, even in our darkest moments, dignity and strength shine through.” She highlighted the extraordinary courage of survivors and the enduring love and resilience of the families affected by the attacks.
On 22 March 2016, suicide bombers targeted Brussels airport and the metro, killing 32 people and injuring more than 300. The attacks sent shockwaves across Belgium and Europe, leaving lasting physical and psychological scars on many survivors.
Commemorations this year aim not only to honour the victims and survivors but also to reflect on the solidarity and resilience shown in the face of terrorism. The anniversary closely follows the European Remembrance Day for Victims of Terrorism, which recognises victims and survivors across the continent and reaffirms the European Union’s commitment to support those affected.
