European Parliament President Roberta Metsola is in Kyiv today to demonstrate the European Union’s continued and unwavering support for Ukraine amid its ongoing war with Russia.

During her visit, Metsola is meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko, and Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk, along with faction and group leaders from Ukraine’s parliament.

In these meetings, she is expected to underline the European Parliament’s backing for a permanent and just peace, coordinated sanctions to further weaken Russia’s war machine, closer parliamentary cooperation, and the advancement of Ukraine’s EU membership bid.

A key moment of the trip will see Metsola address the Verkhovna Rada, where she will officially announce the opening of the European Parliament’s first permanent representation in Kyiv.

The office, which will be co-located with the EU Delegation, marks a significant step in strengthening Europe’s presence and engagement on the ground in Ukraine.

Press appearances are also scheduled as part of the visit, including a joint press conference with President Zelenskyy and statements with Speaker Stefanchuk.

For security reasons, the exact timings of these events will be announced later.

Metsola has been one of Ukraine’s most vocal supporters in Europe, becoming the first leader of an EU institution to visit Kyiv following Russia’s full-scale invasion in April 2022.

Her return today signals the EU’s steadfast commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty, democracy, and European future.
