Robert Abela Unveils Plan to Improve Quality of Life for Maltese Families

Prime Minister Robert Abela has outlined what he described as an ambitious and realistic plan aimed at improving the quality of life for Maltese families, placing well-being at the centre of government policy.
Speaking during an event in Żurrieq, Dr Abela explained that the government’s vision goes beyond traditional economic measures. For the first time, a political party will assess the impact of its proposals not only on economic growth but also on citizens’ overall well-being. He said the measures proposed in the electoral manifesto are expected to deliver an improvement of more than 25 percent in the well-being of Maltese families.
The Prime Minister highlighted a series of financial incentives, including a €5,000 birth bonus, a €5,000 scholarship fund for students completing compulsory education, and a €1,000 grant for those participating in the Erasmus programme. Additional support includes a €1,200 refund on first-home expenses.
Among the key initiatives is the “Kickstart” scheme, which would exempt young workers from paying tax on their first €30,000 of income over three years. The “My First Home” scheme would see the government covering up to a quarter of a home loan.
Further proposals include one year of paid parental leave, additional support for families with multiple children, financial aid for children’s therapies, and increased pensions.
