The Labour Party has unveiled further proposals aimed at strengthening Malta’s voluntary sector if re-elected, with a particular focus on reducing operating costs for organisations through energy efficiency and renewable energy support.

A key element of the plan is the extension of incentives for voluntary organisations to install renewable energy systems in their premises.

Organisations that operate from their own buildings would be supported to invest in renewable energy infrastructure, allowing them to significantly reduce or even eliminate electricity costs over time.

Labour said that this measure would complement existing efforts to assist voluntary organisations with operational expenses.

The party also confirmed that the utility bill subsidy currently available to organisations working in disability and animal welfare would be extended to all voluntary groups.

In addition, organisations not using Government properties would continue to receive financial assistance to help cover rental or property purchase costs, as part of a broader strategy to ensure sustainability and lower long-term running expenses across the voluntary sector.
