Robert Abela Proposes Mental Health Services for MCAST, JC and University Students

Robert Abela has announced a new proposal aimed at strengthening mental health support for students, as part of the Labour Party’s electoral manifesto.
Speaking during the launch of the Żgħażagħ Laburisti campaign, the Prime Minister revealed plans to introduce dedicated mental health services across key educational institutions, including MCAST, Junior College, and the University of Malta.
Under the proposal, students will have access to a range of support systems designed to address everyday pressures and more serious mental health challenges. These include workshops focusing on stress management, sleep, and time management, as well as peer support groups where students can openly share their experiences.
For those requiring more specialised care, the initiative also outlines access to individual therapy sessions. These would cater to students dealing with severe anxiety, depression, trauma, or eating disorders.
The proposal forms part of a broader effort to prioritise student wellbeing and ensure that mental health services are more accessible within everyday educational environments.
