Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced a major new project for Gozo, unveiling plans for an iStudy Hub aimed at creating a modern environment for students and research.

Speaking during the opening of the Labour Party’s 2026 Congress in Gozo, Abela described the initiative as a strategic investment that will attract both Maltese and international students. He said the project is expected to boost the Gozitan economy by creating new job opportunities and supporting industries linked to education and innovation, marking an unprecedented development for the island.

The Prime Minister also revealed plans to install 150 bicycle racks as part of a broader effort to reduce reliance on cars and promote alternative modes of transport. He noted that the initiative aims to improve safety and accessibility within communities while contributing to a cleaner environment.

Addressing the wider economic context, Abela spoke about global challenges including geopolitical tensions and inflation, stressing the need for cautious and responsible economic policies to protect families and businesses. He also highlighted Malta’s positive rating by DBRS Morningstar as a sign of strong public finances and economic resilience.

The congress, opened by Party President Alex Sciberras, is themed “Malta Aqwa – Ikteb il-Kapitlu li Jmiss” and includes discussions on economic growth, social services, education, and infrastructure. It will continue throughout the week, concluding with a final address by Abela.
