Prime Minister Robert Abela delivered a strong message of reassurance during a mass meeting in Siġġiewi, telling families: “Fuq flus tinkwetawx”, don’t worry about money.

Addressing the crowd, Abela emphasised that Malta has built one of Europe’s strongest economies precisely to withstand difficult moments and support people when they are most vulnerable. He stressed that the Labour Party remains committed to standing by families, ensuring that financial burdens do not add to already challenging situations.

During his speech, the Prime Minister shared a recent conversation with a couple who praised the government’s policy of covering medical travel costs for patients seeking treatment abroad. Currently, the government pays for the patient, and in the case of children under 18, it also covers both parents.

However, the couple raised a concern, why doesn’t the scheme extend to an accompanying person for adult patients?

Abela confirmed that this could soon change. He announced that if the public places its trust in the Labour movement in the upcoming election, one of the first measures introduced will be the extension of this support to include an accompanying person for adults receiving treatment abroad.

“Malta must be there for its people when they need it most,” he said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening social support systems and ensuring no one faces such difficult moments alone, or worried about the cost.
