Robert Abela was officially sworn in as Prime Minister of Malta, beginning a new term in office following Labour’s victory in the 2026 General Election.

The Labour Party secured a historic fourth consecutive electoral victory, the first time in Malta’s political history that a party has won four general elections in a row. Labour won the election by a gap of 21,825 votes over the Nationalist Party, maintaining its parliamentary majority following Saturday’s vote.

This marks Abela’s second general election victory as Prime Minister after first leading Labour to victory in the 2022 General Election.

Abela, who first became Prime Minister in January 2020, now begins another term leading the country as Labour continues its historic run in government, which first began under Joseph Muscat in 2013.
