Opposition Leader Alex Borg recently addressed the Nationalist Party’s first political activity of 2026, stating that the PN’s objective should be to win the next general election rather than simply narrow the gap.

Speaking during an interview forming part of the PN’s ‘Qrib Tagħkom’ series, Borg reflected on his first 100 days as party leader, saying he focused on building a relationship with the public based on listening, respect and solutions.

He claimed that all commitments made during his leadership campaign were fulfilled within this initial period.

“This is a crucial year where yes, the Prime Minister may announce a general election,” Borg stated, “and for this reason, we need to be prepared, not to lessen the gap, but to win the general election.”

Borg addressed several themes, including the government’s record over the past six years, governance, and what he described as a lack of consultation on key decisions, including the forthcoming appointment of a new Chief Justice.

The Opposition leader also raised concerns about public spending, transparency and economic direction, while referring to issues such as traffic, housing affordability and connectivity with Gozo.

He presented the PN’s vision as one centred on transparency, long-term planning, new economic sectors and policies aimed at improving the daily realities faced by Maltese and Gozitan families.

He expressed confidence that the PN can position itself as a credible alternative government by maintaining direct contact with the public and strengthening trust.
