Robert Abela Contacted Daphne Caruana Galizia's Husband, Wants To Meet Family

Prime Minister Robert Abela revealed that he contacted Daphne Caruana Galizia’s husband, Peter Caruana Galizia, on Thursday morning following Wednesday’s verdict.

Speaking from Castille, Abela said he asked him to pass on his regards to Daphne’s children and expressed his respect and solidarity with the family.

The Prime Minister said he would also like to meet the Caruana Galizia family, adding that they have always shown him respect and that he looks forward to speaking with them personally.

Abela said he remains available to support and consider any requests made by the family, while acknowledging the emotion surrounding the latest developments.

He described Wednesday’s events as an extremely painful moment for the family, reflecting on the fact that they may have experienced it as another devastating day, comparable in emotion to the day Daphne was killed.

Abela also distanced himself from any insulting or hostile comments directed towards the Caruana Galizia family, making clear that he does not associate himself with such commentary.

Turning to Opposition Leader Alex Borg, Abela accused him of choosing a partisan tone instead of showing maturity during a sensitive national moment.

Asked about claims or implications that the murder may have been plotted from Castille, Abela said he would not speculate.

Instead, he said he will allow the country’s institutions to carry out their work independently and will only comment on the basis of their findings, stressing that their functions must be respected.
