This weekend, Malta commemorates Sette Giugno, one of the most significant events in the country's history.

Observed annually on the 7th of June, Sette Giugno marks the 1919 uprising during which Maltese citizens protested against rising living costs and British colonial rule.

The demonstrations resulted in the deaths of four Maltese men, who are remembered as national heroes.

A commemorative ceremony was held in St George's Square, Valletta, where Prime Minister Robert Abela and other dignitaries paid tribute to those who lost their lives.

In a post to his social media, the Prime Minister shared photos from the ceremony, stating that they are “back at St George’s Square to remember the events of June 7th.”
