Robert Abela & Alex Borg Attend UM’s New Rector Frank Bezzina’s Inauguration

Prime Minister Robert Abela and Nationalist Party leader Alex Borg both attended the inauguration of new University of Malta rector Frank Bezzina yesterday evening.
Abela wished Bezzina every success in his new role, saying that together with him, the government will continue to safeguard ‘the best interests of our students.’
On his part, Borg said that the inauguration is an important step in the history of the highest academic institution of the country. ‘A step that opens a new chapter of leadership, vision and strategic direction.’
Buzzing was elected 82nd rector earlier this year, and will be beginning his five year term from today, July 1st 2026, and taking over from Alfred J. Vella, who led the institution since 2016.
