At a press conference marking the first direct flight from New York to Malta operated by Delta Airlines, Prime Minister Robert Abela acknowledged Malta’s journey toward stronger connectivity and the ambition the country has to continue moving forward.
In the presence of Tourism Minister Jo Etienne Abela, Malta International Airport CEO Alan Borg, and representatives from Delta Air Lines, Prime Minister Robert Abela emphasized that the flight connection between the United States and Malta is yet another demonstration of confidence in the country.
Noting that flights between John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and Malta will operate three times per week, Dr. Abela said that Malta will not only continue to welcome high-quality tourists but also investors and families visiting the country. He added that this creates greater opportunities to strengthen economic cooperation with the United States.
The Prime Minister highlighted the positive results Malta is achieving in tourism, as well as the investment currently taking place at Malta International Airport. He noted that, for the first time, the airport handled one million passengers during the spring season.
Prime Minister Robert Abela stated that a new government led by him will continue to provide stability and peace of mind in the energy sector and in supply-related matters, ensuring that the aviation industry can continue operating effectively.
He said he looks forward to further cooperation so that tourism continues to generate added value for a country that is earning economic certifications demonstrating its strength, such as Malta.
Eurostat reported that Malta recorded the highest economic growth in the European Union during the first quarter of this year, while S&P Global Ratings confirmed a stable rating and outlook for the Maltese economy.
