Revolut users in Malta and across the world have experienced major disruptions after the popular digital banking platform was hit by a widespread outage on Tuesday, 20th October.

Customers reported being unable to access their accounts, make payments, top up their balances or view recent transactions, with some encountering error messages when attempting to use the app.

The disruption also affected users in several other countries, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Spain and Japan, prompting widespread complaints on social media.

Revolut acknowledged the technical difficulties, confirming that multiple services had been affected and reassuring customers that their money and personal data remained safe.

The company also apologised for the inconvenience, explaining that its engineering team was working to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.

According to Reuters, the disruption was linked to technical problems affecting Google's cloud infrastructure in London, which also impacted several other financial institutions and online services.

The incident has highlighted the growing reliance on digital banking platforms, particularly among customers who depend on Revolut for everyday transactions.

Although the outage caused widespread frustration earlier in the day, Revolut's official Malta status page now lists all services as operational.
