Restoration Completed On Mattia Preti’s Painting St Joseph With The Child Jesus

Minister for Gozo and Planning, Clint Camilleri, has announced that the Ministry, in collaboration with the Sannat Parish Church, has completed the restoration of the 17th-century oil-on-canvas painting St Joseph with the Child Jesus by the renowned artist Mattia Preti. The artwork is housed in the Sannat Parish Church.

This significant project, carried out over recent months by a dedicated team of professional restorers, has breathed new life into one of the island’s cultural and artistic treasures while ensuring its preservation for future generations.

Minister Camilleri noted that “This Mattia Preti painting is the fourth one known to be found within our parishes here. Through this restoration, it can now be enjoyed far more by the public, especially by all those visiting our island particularly our churches, which are themselves monuments filled with various artefacts on display. I believe that our churches, aside from their primary religious purpose, hold a wealth of historical heritage that we must all appreciate.”

Minister Camilleri concluded by thanking the restoration team for their professionalism and dedication, adding that the Ministry remains fully committed to supporting and funding restoration projects for the benefit of today’s society and generations yet to come.
