Renowned Maltese Film-Maker Elio Lombardi Dies Aged 92

Renowned Maltese film-maker and author Elio Lombardi has died at the age of 92.
His passing was announced on social media by his son Gino, who expressed gratitude to the staff at Casa San Paolo, the elderly residence where Lombardi spent his final months, as well as to friends and well-wishers who supported him over the years.
Lombardi was widely recognised for his long career in film, during which he directed over 100 productions.
Before entering the industry, he worked in tailoring and printing, later establishing himself as a significant figure in local cinema.
In 2025 he received the Malta Cine Circle Lifetime Achievement Award for his work.
Over the years, Lombardi also attracted interest from international figures. British film director Michael Klinger had reportedly expressed an intention to help introduce him to a wider audience following a meeting in Malta, although he passed away shortly after.
Tributes poured in after his passing, expressing their fond memories of the artist.
