Renowned Cartoonist & Author Ġorġ Mallia Passes Away Aged 68

Cartoonist, author and academic Ġorġ Mallia has died at the age of 68, leaving behind a legacy that spans children's literature, journalism, academia and the arts.
Mallia served as head of the Department of Media and Communications at the University of Malta, where he mentored generations of students.
He was widely known for his contributions to children's literature, writing and illustrating numerous books over several decades.
His best-known works include Ktieb ix-Xwejjaħ, published in 1987, Avventura taħt l-Art, first released in English in 1989 and later adapted into Maltese, and the popular Pullu series, which has entertained young readers since 2000.
His most recent children's book, L-Istejjer tal-Professur Għasfur, was published in 2024. He also wrote for adults, including Mitt Ruħ in 2020.
Mallia was co-editor and producer of the children's magazine Sagħtar and also edited the national children's magazine HeyU!. He spent many years as a cartoonist for Times of Malta, with his final cartoon appearing on Sunday.
