Rebuilding & Restoration Of Ħitan Tas-Sejjieħ In Several Nadur Roads

The Minister for Gozo and Planning, Clint Camilleri, visited the extensive ongoing works involving the rebuilding and restoration of ħitan tas-sejjieħ in several important roads in Nadur, including Triq ta’ Xurdin, Triq ir-Ramla l-Ħamra, Trejqet ta’ Xurdin, and Triq l-Inżul tal-Franċiżi.
These works aim to strengthen rural infrastructure in Nadur while continuing to protect and preserve Gozo’s agricultural and environmental heritage.
Minister Camilleri stated that “This project is being implemented with funding from European Funds under Measure 4.4 of the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, with an investment of nearly €900,000. Through this investment, around 1.2 kilometres of ħitan tas-sejjieħ will be restored or rebuilt. These are important projects that may appear small, but they have a very positive impact on the surrounding environment, as well as on the visual landscape for all those who visit these countryside areas across the island of Gozo.”
He added that this project is a testament to the Government’s ongoing commitment to invest in rural areas and safeguard the unique character of the Gozitan landscape. ħitan tas-sejjieħ are an essential part of our agricultural identity, and through this work they are being preserved for future generations, while accessibility and safety in these areas continue to improve.
Minister Clint Camilleri concluded by stating that this investment shows how European funds are being used effectively to strengthen the agricultural sector and protect Gozo’s natural environment.
