Rare Stinging Jellyfish Spotted In Maltese Waters

Environment
A rare encounter of a jellyfish species in Maltese waters, as marine biologist Alan Deidun shared footage of what is likely a hydromedusa Neotima lucullana.
This jellyfish, rarely seen in Maltese waters, was first recorded in 2013, but has rarely been swimming around the island.
The species packs a sting and is native to the western Mediterranean and the Adriatic, as it prefers colder waters.
Thankfully swimming season is over… except for those still going for freezing swims well into winter.
