Rain Showers & Strong Winds For Good Friday: Sunshine For Sunday
Local

As Malta marks Holy Week, unsettled weather conditions across the central Mediterranean are set to persist over the islands, particularly until Good Friday, the MET Office has reported.

Maundy Thursday will be largely overcast, with frequent rain showers expected throughout the day, some of which may turn thundery. Winds will strengthen from the west to northwest, reaching Force 5 to 6 by morning and increasing further later in the day.

Weather warnings already in place for strong winds and heavy showers, including possible hail, may remain in force.

Temperatures are expected to peak at around 14°C before dropping to 10°C overnight, making it the coldest day of the period. Strong winds will likely make conditions feel colder, especially in the evening during traditional church visits.

Good Friday will bring typically unsettled spring weather, with windy and showery conditions that could disrupt planned processions. While there may be slight improvement compared to Thursday, isolated showers are still likely, particularly earlier in the day.

Northwesterly winds will remain strong, easing slightly later, while temperatures may reach 16°C before falling to about 11°C in the evening.

Conditions should gradually improve from Holy Saturday, although a few showers cannot be ruled out. Winds are expected to ease but it will remain relatively cool.

By Easter Sunday, brighter weather is forecast to return, with some sunshine and lighter winds. Temperatures should reach around 16°C, offering more favourable conditions for outdoor celebrations.
