Puttinu Cares Expands London Accommodation Project For Maltese Patients
Local

Puttinu Cares has announced the expansion of its accommodation project in London to support Maltese and Gozitan patients travelling to the United Kingdom for medical treatment.

Around twenty years ago, patients who needed to travel to England for specialised care had to find and pay for their own accommodation. This often meant significant financial pressure at an already difficult time for both patients and their families.

Recognising this challenge, Puttinu Cares began offering support to families, initially focusing on children undergoing cancer treatment before later extending assistance to adults.

Today, between 60 and 90 patients travel to the UK each month for treatment, many of them receiving care at hospitals such as Great Ormond Street Hospital and The Royal Marsden Hospital.

Thanks to the generosity of the Maltese and Gozitan public, Puttinu currently provides 20 apartments near The Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton, offering completely free accommodation to patients and their families.

The organisation has also invested in a new project in central London, just a ten minute walk from Great Ormond Street Hospital near Russell Square. The property was purchased in 2021 for £8.9 million and its value has already risen to around £18 million.

Construction works on the building began in January 2026. Once completed, the project will provide 29 additional apartments, bringing the total number of Puttinu apartments in the UK to 49.

These residences will continue to offer free accommodation to Maltese patients and their families, providing comfort, support and a “home away from home” during one of the most challenging periods of their lives.
